Case description
At about 5:30 p.m. on 27 September 1973, a mechanic identified as Antoine X or Mr. A was picking mushrooms in woodland on Mont Réal near Bédarrides, Vaucluse. At the edge of a clearing he noticed a small figure roughly one hundred feet away. As it bent to collect something from the ground, a second, apparently identical figure joined it.
Both looked human, approximately four feet tall, with slender arms and ordinary-looking hands. They wore beige coveralls closed at the neck and wrists and black berets; tall grass hid their feet. Thinking they were children, Antoine called out. They laughed and disappeared into brush. A few seconds later a dull blue-gray oval, estimated at five metres wide, rose beyond the trees. It paused at roughly twenty feet, made a slight whistle during ascent, then departed rapidly northeast in silence.
Flattened grass and a bush were later interpreted as a possible low hovering site. Jean Bastide investigated, and the report appeared in Lumières dans la Nuit and MUFON UFO Journal before inclusion in HUMCAT. No boarding was observed, so the connection between figures and object remains an inference from sequence and proximity. The unrelated beam-and-radio narrative attached to this imported record, with an implausible post-1969 Blue Book attribution, has been excluded. The plate labels its combination of successive moments.
