Case description
A businesswoman travelling from Huntsville toward relatives in Tifton reported a roadside encounter north of Ashburn on October 19,1973. At approximately 3:30 p.m., soon after refuelling, her car’s engine and powered systems failed. She managed to steer onto the Interstate 75 shoulder and remained seated, becoming increasingly uneasy.
Looking left through the window, she reported a small humanoid in pewter-like metallic clothing. Its bubble-shaped helmet had rectangular eye openings. The forearms were unusually narrow; the car obstructed her view of the legs, although she thought its movement looked mechanical. After several minutes the figure walked around the vehicle and disappeared from her view. Fearing a fire, she left the car and raised its bonnet, releasing smoke. A state trooper and recovery vehicle reportedly arrived after prolonged waits.
The account circulated through the Huntsville Times, Skylook, APRO and David Webb’s 1973 catalogue. APRO’s editors expressed suspicion of a hoax; the retrieved source does not establish a confession or settled explanation. No spacecraft is described, and no medical injury is specified. NICAP and Hatch versions are treated as probable retellings of one event rather than independent corroboration.
