Goshen disc-shaped object report — October 19, 1973

At about 21:00 on 19 October 1973, a farmer identified only as “Sam” said he encountered an unusual object while outside with his coon dogs near Goshen, Ohio. The fuller NICAP chronology places it in a field about three hundred feet away. It appeared dimly illuminated and rested on three supporting legs, rather than merely passing overhead. Sam described a saucer with a dome on top, estimating its width at seventy-five to one hundred feet. Two blue and two white lights were visible. Three figures of approximately ordinary human size moved around it. His dogs reacted vigorously and would go no closer. After almost three minutes, the figures reportedly climbed a ladder beneath the centre of the object. It then rose vertically and departed. The available summary supplies no dependable facial, skin or clothing description for these figures. The account reached the research literature through investigator Charles Wilhelm and communications to Leonard Stringfield and Ted Bloecher, later cited in David Webb’s humanoid catalogue. Wilhelm had originally gone to investigate another local report and learned about Sam’s experience nearby. That research history should not turn neighbouring sightings into independent observation of this particular landing. Some secondary compilations misplace Goshen in Indiana; the case sources used here specify Ohio. The plate follows the field-and-ladder sequence and leaves the figures’ unreported features indistinct.
