Case description
At approximately 2:30 a.m. on October 21, 1973, a woman identified in sources as R. Heitfield or Reafa Heitfeld awoke in her Covedale, Ohio, trailer home. Looking through the curtains, she reportedly saw six blue and silver lights close outside. After they disappeared, a brighter source became visible in the parking area, partly hidden by a parked car.
The source was described as a transparent bell-jar-like capsule about two metres across. Beside it, and subsequently apparently within its glow, she perceived a heavy gray apelike figure with no obvious neck and a projecting nose. Its arms moved stiffly as if working controls. Her thirteen-year-old son Carl eventually joined her, but the fuller account says he was sleepy, could see the light and was uncertain about the creature. This is more limited corroboration than the brief “mother and son saw a humanoid” summary suggests.
She reportedly telephoned police, who did not attend, and found the object gone when she returned to the window. Later reports mention a nearby warehouse alarm and residue at the location; their relationship to the sighting was not independently established here. Leonard Stringfield’s investigation is cited by subsequent catalogues. The plate represents the mother’s account and does not turn the son’s uncertain glimpse into a second detailed entity observation.
