Open this case in the interactive AtlasCase description
At about 1:15 a.m. on October 28, 1973, truck driver Dionisio Llanca was traveling on Route 3 near Villa Bordeu, outside Bahía Blanca, Argentina. A failing rear tire forced him onto the roadside. He took out the spare and tools and began the familiar physical work of changing a heavy truck wheel under the night sky.
Llanca later said a yellow light appeared behind him and rapidly intensified, shifting toward blue until the truck and road were flooded with brightness. The vehicle's electrical system or nearby sounds seemed to fail. He tried to stand but found that he could neither rise nor call out. Looking toward the source, he saw a metallic plate-shaped object hovering low over the roadside.
Three human-looking figures approached from the light. Llanca described two men and one woman, all tall, pale and blond, wearing fitted grey one-piece garments and high boots. They did not resemble the small grey beings of later popular culture. Their faces and bodies appeared human, their movements controlled and clinical.
One male figure reportedly seized or lifted Llanca by the front of his sweater. A second brought a small pencil-like instrument to the base of Llanca's left index finger. Llanca recalled two small drops of blood and then lost consciousness. The female figure remained close, observing. Later narratives interpret this as a blood sampling procedure, but the intention and even the precise sequence depend on Llanca's recollection.
Llanca was subsequently recovered away from the stopped-truck scene in a confused condition and received medical attention. The gap between the roadside episode and his recovery became the basis for the case's CE4 classification. Investigators documented his account, his physical state and the small mark he associated with the device. Much of the detailed encounter narrative was developed in later interviews and hypnotic sessions, which require explicit caution because hypnosis can strengthen confidence without guaranteeing accuracy.
The truck, failed tire and witness's disrupted journey supplied a real-world frame. The intense light, reported paralysis, three visitors, instrument and displacement remained uncorroborated at the decisive moments. No authenticated photograph of the craft or figures exists, and no recovered biological or mechanical evidence established an extraordinary origin. A small puncture or drops of blood are not unique to the reported procedure.
Supporters have cited Llanca's distress, the specificity of the three figures and the circumstances of his recovery. Alternative explanations include a medical episode, exhaustion, disorientation, assault, fabrication or memory shaped during later questioning. The surviving source chain does not allow the Atlas to choose conclusively among them.
The portrait reconstructs the reported roadside moment without adding an onboard scene: Llanca beside the disabled 1973 truck, one blond male lifting his sweater, another applying a small device near his left index finger, a blond woman observing, and a plate-shaped craft casting blue light over the pampas. It shows no gore and remains labeled as an illustrative reconstruction rather than evidence.
