Case description

Early on November 2, 1973, Lyndia Morel drove from Manchester toward her home in Goffstown, New Hampshire, after finishing work and stopping for coffee and fuel. A colour-flashing light repeatedly appeared ahead of her. Beyond central Goffstown she described an orange-gold globe patterned with hexagonal shapes, an oval window, and a high-pitched sound. She reported tingling, difficulty releasing the steering wheel, a gap in awareness of part of the road, and a sensation that the light drew her accelerating car toward it. A humanoid upper body reportedly appeared behind a console at the window: a round greyish, wrinkled head, large eyes with dark pupils and a downturned slit mouth. Morel interpreted an impression as reassurance, but turned into the Beaudoin family's driveway and sought help. They found her distressed but did not hear the sound. Goffstown officer Daniel Jubinville arrived at approximately 4:40 a.m. Walter Webb's APRO investigation, incorporating Betty Hill's work, records Morel's explicit denial of engine, headlight, or radio failure. Her speedometer was already defective, and she acknowledged that fear might have caused her acceleration. Webb also considered a later light seen during the aftermath ambiguous because Mars could explain its position. That later phase did not independently confirm the close encounter. No completed taking or onboard experience was established by the report. The plate depicts the reported roadside globe and window figure; its appearance and the road are illustrative reconstructions.
