Case description
At about 9 p.m. on May 7, 1974, Margaret K. Roffe, a nurse’s aide at the Veterans Administration hospital in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, reportedly saw a disc descend onto the roof of Building No. 1 while she was walking between buildings. The fuller account describes four landing legs extending beneath the object and a ramp emerging from its underside.
Three beings climbed down backwards. They were described as gray, bald and under five feet tall, with elongated heads, short legs and claw-like hands. Roffe reportedly heard high, squeaky voices as they moved beside the craft. The brief NICAP listing says they appeared to inspect its legs. After noticing the witness, they returned inside; the disc then rose over nearby trees, which reportedly swayed violently, and retracted its legs.
The published versions differ over the departure speed, and a later chronology questions whether the year might have been 1973 rather than 1974. The inherited spelling “Coatsville” also obscures the hospital’s Coatesville location. No original witness statement, hospital investigation or independently authenticated physical evidence was located in this review. The plate reconstructs the reported rooftop scene rather than presenting it as a verified photograph.
