Case description
Danie van Graan reportedly encountered an unusual object on his land near Loxton, South Africa, on July 31, 1975. Early accounts say 7:30 a.m.; HUMCAT’s correction gives 7:50. He initially took the object for a caravan before noticing its oval form, windows, lights and occupants. Published estimates of his age and the observation’s duration also vary.
Inside he described four pale, humanlike people with long faces, high foreheads and fair hair. The corrected account gives cream coveralls with their hoods lowered, one occupant holding an instrument and another by a panel. A flap allegedly opened and directed light at his face. He reported a nosebleed and later visual problems. Ground impressions and unusual material were also claimed, but those reports do not establish their cause.
Cynthia Hind and Joe Brill investigated; HUMCAT preserves both an early newspaper abstract and later corrections. The plate follows the hood-down account, showing van Graan, all four occupants and the oval craft. Detailed faces, interior fittings and vehicle construction remain artistic reconstruction, rather than a photograph of the reported event.
