Case description
On the night of September 3, 1975, Melinda Chow reportedly got off her homebound bus near Manassas, Virginia, and noticed an orange disc glowing above nearby trees. The object was descending. Although frightened, she said she ran toward it rather than away and reached a clearing from which she could see it on the ground.
The craft was described as resting on stilts about two hundred feet from her. A being approximately five feet tall moved nearby. Its proportions were particularly unusual: long narrow legs, very short arms, and a face said to occupy roughly half its entire body height. Its skin was described as gray and leathery, and its movement as a bouncing or hopping walk. Chow then fled to her house. The surviving summary does not describe conversation, physical contact, entry into the object or a witnessed departure.
The CUFOS HUMCAT entry cites the newspaper Midnight and refers to the witness’s published sketch. It also records an important negative finding: investigator Richard Hall was unable to verify the truth of the story. The reconstruction preserves the reported proportions rather than replacing the figure with a standard gray alien, but its precise facial features and the witness’s appearance remain illustrative.
