Case description
Ten-year-old Denis Dubich told his teacher that he had seen a flying saucer beside his home at Merxheim on November 6, 1975, around 9:45–10 p.m. He said a howling dog drew him outside, where a red-orange luminous object descended into a cabbage field approximately fifty metres away.
His account described a domed circular machine with bright portholes and three unfolding legs. A mechanical arm with a pincer allegedly removed cabbages. The upper cover opened and a white head-and-torso shape emerged, looked around, and withdrew. The object then rose and departed toward the southeast, accompanied by whistling or humming and a sensation of heat.
Gendarmes interviewed Denis, his teacher and other children. The additional accounts chiefly concerned lights, rather than the occupant or machinery. Investigators found no landing impressions, burns, tree damage or abnormal radiation. The field’s owner said he had removed cabbages himself and could not establish additional losses.
Contemporary newspaper coverage and police statements survive through later reproductions. Subsequent reviewers considered a possible or probable childhood invention; the television-like appearance also concerned the teacher. That interpretation should remain alongside the claims, without treating the reported machinery or occupant as independently corroborated.
