Case description
At approximately 6 p.m. on February 10, 1976, two boys climbing a hill in Hamden reportedly heard crashing sounds from an adjacent junkyard. One called out, after which noises continued through the brush. HUMCAT identifies J.G. and S.B., aged 14 and 13; NICAP gives both as 14, using Grey and Barnet.
One boy saw a brief greenish light in a neighbouring field. At the hilltop he reported two pairs of very short legs shuffling rapidly across the road, about 25 feet away. The visible portions appeared covered by smooth, purple-glowing one-piece suits. Their waists were estimated 20–22 inches above the ground; this is not a measurement of total height, and faces or upper bodies were not described.
As the boys approached, a white, lemon-shaped light appeared by the road roughly 15 feet away. It rose and moved diagonally across the road beneath power lines, stopped around rooftop height, changed to two flashing red lights and departed. No boarding was observed. HUMCAT cites reports by James P. Barrett and Richard Nycz. This fuller file adds a departing light to the abbreviated figure report, while leaving the relationship between the short legs and that light an interpretation rather than a witnessed transition.
