Case description
At about 7 p.m. on February 19, 1976, two observers contacted the Sutter County sheriff's office about unusual aerial lights near Marysville, California. Deputy Gerald Teplansky was sent to investigate. According to the contemporary NICAP report, he was able to watch the objects for approximately five minutes, providing an additional reported observation beyond the initial telephone call.
Teplansky described three red-orange luminous objects hovering in a triangular arrangement. He then noticed a fourth, similar object moving rapidly north across the sky. All four eventually disappeared from view. The description concerns separate lights forming a pattern; it does not identify a single solid triangular vehicle connecting them. The published report adds that spokesmen for Beale and Vandenberg Air Force Bases could not match the description to their aircraft.
The July 1976 UFO Investigator is the direct published source for this sequence. Its account does not describe windows, occupants, a landing, communication, instrument readings or physical traces. Consequently, the inherited entity-encounter title is not supported by the actual sighting text. The plate shows the deputy watching distant red-orange lights, with a fourth moving point as a modest compression of the reported sequence. The patrol car, observer's appearance and exact observation site are reconstructed. The report documents what was claimed and investigated; it does not by itself establish an extraterrestrial explanation.
