Case description
During May 1976, Christina Bryant was travelling from Phoenix to Lubbock with her four-year-old daughter and a friend. The catalogue assigns the journey to May 21. Near Alamogordo, around 10:30 p.m., they noticed unusual lights in the sky. To amuse her daughter, Bryant called for the lights to change blue and red; she said they appeared to respond for intervals of about forty-five seconds and to keep pace with the car. They subsequently found themselves off the main highway on a two-lane back road.
Around a bend, they encountered what seemed to be a police car beside a single-car wreck. The damaged vehicle stood at a steep angle, with its battery hanging from what Bryant thought was the wrong side of the hood. The officer carried a flashlight and clipboard but wore an elaborate uniform with braids and medals. When he touched her hand at the open window, she felt an alarming coldness. No injured person was visible. After continuing for about forty-five minutes, they reached a truck stop and discovered it was approximately 3 a.m. The catalogue describes five hours of missing time; the contemporary newspaper account calls it several missing hours. In Lubbock, her mother showed her a story about UFO reports from the same general area.
Bryant sought an explanation in January 1983. Investigator Bob Morgan of MUFON San Antonio worked with hypnotherapist Jackson Morris, and a substantially different version of the roadside scene emerged under hypnosis. Bryant recalled the officer gently helping her from the car. She described blond hair, blue eyes and a reassuring manner. The supposed police car was now remembered as a craft resembling a broad conical hat, with a ladder leading aboard. These scenes were later hypnotic recollections, separate from the roadside details she had initially remembered.
Inside, she recalled sitting before a large window and a screen displaying numbers and converging lines. Her escort appeared to operate controls as stars rushed past. She remembered his name approximately as Oran or Oron. He then led her through a doorway to an examination area containing a man, two women and a surgical-looking table. Her daughter appeared asleep on another table, with a woman's hand resting protectively on her.
Bryant recalled being floated onto the table and, briefly, watching her own body from outside it. Her arm was scraped, a needle-like instrument entered her back, and fluid was taken from an eye and replaced. When asked during hypnosis to examine the occupants more closely, she described large hairless heads, tight white flesh, almond-shaped eyes and very small mouths. The published recollections do not supply a detailed return from the craft.
The March 1983 newspaper report described Bryant as thirty-five and placed the trip seven years earlier; the catalogue describes her as twenty-eight during the encounter. Both reported ages are retained in that context. She was then employed by a major airline and expressed concern about the response if her account became public.
