Case description
At about 7:30 p.m. on 10 February 1977, Lois Stovall noticed a beautiful star- or flame-like light near Lillian Cavett Elementary School in Tucson. According to APRO's contemporary report, it curved around the school, descended almost to the lawn, crossed the fence and hovered above a small tree in her grandmother Alice Buckner's yard. Both women went outside and watched from less than fifty feet away.
They described a narrow upright capsule with rounded ends, approximately six and a half feet tall and two and a half feet wide. Its transparent front revealed dark vertical bars and a white flame-like floor light containing red and blue streamers. Behind it was a small, motionless human-shaped figure in a puffy grey suit with ridges around the limbs. No hands, feet or distinct facial features were discerned.
Buckner stood underneath and reached within about two feet of the smooth underside. From that angle she thought a face was behind a window in the head section, but could not resolve details. The capsule rose, passed over a neighbouring carport and telephone wires, and dwindled southward to a golden point. Neighbour Dessie Turner separately described a transparent capsule, internal light and possible shadowy figure.
APRO also recorded low-flying helicopters and inquiries to local aviation authorities, without establishing their relationship to the capsule. Their presence and the detailed witness statements are parts of the report; they do not establish the object's identity or origin.
