Case description
A teacher and approximately fifteen pupils in Encinitas reportedly watched a large domed disc descend into a canyon on 6 May 1977. NICAP's Hatch-derived entry says figures were visible inside and that the object was seen again about an hour later. Later accounts identify Ocean Knoll Elementary School and describe the observation as a morning event.
Recordings circulated by Preston Dennett relay the children's observations through their fathers. These retellings describe a silver plate-shaped object rising again near the school, hovering at approximately the pupils' level, and eventually departing upward. Windows and possible occupants appear in the accounts, but detailed descriptions are inconsistent or incomplete. The surviving source chain should not be treated as fifteen individually documented interviews merely because a group of that size is reported.
The case is distinct from another schoolyard sighting in Downey on 2 May 1977. Later programmes discuss both together; the Downey light, coloured rings and reported apartment vibration must not be transferred to Encinitas. The two cases' different schools, dates and object descriptions remain separate.
The reviewed sources do not establish a particular alien anatomy, a witnessed pupil boarding or independently verified physical traces. The reconstruction consequently places the teacher and pupils beside the canyon with a domed disc and indistinct interior figures. The occupant count, portraits and exact schoolyard arrangement are representative.
