Case description
José Benedito Bogea, a fifty-two-year-old farmer living south of Pinheiro, told Bob Pratt that he encountered an unusual light while walking to catch a bus at 1 a.m. on July 10,1977. He said a bright greenish-blue object followed him, moved ahead above scrub and revealed a V-shaped form. When he directed his flashlight toward it, it flashed back. He experienced an electric-shock sensation and lost consciousness.
Bogea’s subsequent recollection was of a city with broad avenues, gardens and low buildings. Its inhabitants looked human, wore colourful clothing and communicated by gestures; Bogea had longstanding deafness. He described being watched in a large room, walking through the city with an escort and seeing unusual vehicles and parked discs. After entering a vehicle, he allegedly fell asleep again and awoke beside a highway near São Luís, far from his starting point.
He reported weeks of pain and weakness, followed by perceived improvements in sight and hearing. Pratt also recorded prior surgery and later injury that complicated those claims. Bogea acknowledged the possibility of a dream, although he believed his memories real. The account is therefore retained as his reported experience, without presenting the city or medical changes as independently verified. The plate labels its roadside/city composition as a sequence composite.
