Barra do Corda entity encounter — July 17, 1977

João Batista Souza, owner of the Nova Melia ranch near Barra do Corda, reportedly encountered an unusual object during an early-morning walk in July 1977. The fuller account, attributed to Daniel Rebisso Giese and Flying Saucer Review, says that around 5 a.m. he noticed a fiery-looking sphere about two hundred metres away. Frightened, he sheltered behind a mound and watched it descend. As its brightness diminished, he compared the object with a straw hat: a raised central portion above a broad disc. A door reportedly opened and a short figure, estimated at one metre tall, emerged. Its face was concealed by a helmet with antenna-like projections. The rest of its visible body appeared covered in hair. In its left hand it held a torch-like object producing reddish light; something in its other hand could not be identified. The account says Souza then lost awareness. Family members subsequently found him lying outside and carried him home, where he remained weak for several days. This does not establish what occurred during the interval or a medically demonstrated cause for his condition. No witnessed boarding or removal is described.
