Case description
Vera L. Perry’s fuller account appeared in the autumn 1977 issue of Awareness. At about 23:30 on an unspecified August night, Steve Elmer had left the barn at his Arabian-horse ranch near Berlin Heights, Ohio. After noticing rabbits by a stone pile, he waved his flashlight around and upward, shaking it when old batteries made its beam flicker.
Elmer noticed a white light moving toward Lake Erie and initially assumed it was an aircraft. It then appeared to approach. His wife Cindy came outside and joined him. Neither could distinguish a shape behind the increasing brightness or hear a sound. When Steve switched off his flashlight, the light reportedly stopped, hovered and retreated. He flashed again and it returned. On the next switch-off it continued approaching, and they hid in bushes.
They watched it hover above their paddock, apparently full-Moon-sized and bright enough to illuminate the surroundings, before departing toward the lake. Perry gave a fifteen-minute duration and mentioned a newspaper report by two women the next day. That reference does not independently establish the claimed flashlight response. No beings, structured craft outline or physical trace is described. The plate shows both observers and an undefined luminous source.
