Case description
At about 10:30 p.m. on January 6, 1978, two men leaving a beachfront café at Santo António da Caparica reportedly watched a brilliant bluish light moving low over the sea. It descended steeply at speed, stopped, then continued more slowly into woods near a campground. The men followed into an area illuminated by blue light and reached a clearing.
About eight metres away stood a humanlike figure estimated at 2.1 metres tall. The expanded catalogue description gives it a loose, shiny silver outfit and a large white helmet with a narrow black visor at eye level. It turned and moved heavily and slowly toward a metallic blue, domed, saucer-shaped object hovering close to the ground. Both men became frightened and ran away; no conversation or taking aboard is described.
One witness reportedly experienced an internal buzzing sensation and later difficulty sleeping. An approximately eight-metre circular ground mark was said to have been found the next day, but the accessible material supplies no independent measurements or laboratory results. The source chain runs through UNICAT case 609, Galaxia 2000 and the Ballester Olmos–Fernández Peris close-encounter encyclopaedia. The witnesses remain unnamed and the original magazine report is not securely identified, limiting assessment of the trace and medical claims.
