Fort Dix/McGuire AFB entity encounter — January 18, 1978

The Fort Dix–McGuire story alleges an encounter on 18 January 1978 at the adjoining New Jersey military installations. Its principal public source was an Air Force security policeman using the pseudonym “Jeff Morse,” whose account was investigated by Leonard Stringfield and Richard Hall. Morse was not presented as the Fort Dix officer who allegedly fired at a being; that shooting reached him through another officer’s account. In Hall’s version, a low-flying object hovered near a patrol car and a small, large-headed, slender-bodied figure appeared. After an alleged shooting, the figure supposedly crossed the base boundary and was later found dead on an unused runway. Morse claimed to have helped secure the area before other personnel took over, followed by removal of a container aboard a C-141 and warnings to remain silent. These are allegations dependent on the witness narrative, not an independently documented military recovery. A purported incident form later circulated as supporting evidence. NICAP’s case directory says its authenticity could not be verified and describes the document as a hoax; the underlying story remains unsubstantiated.
