Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul entity encounter — May 10, 1978

Assis Antônio Caetano de Ávila, 28, reported a beacon-like light while friends drove him home on 10 May 1978. After being dropped off in Pelotas, he saw a brilliant object descend beside a fenced field. He described a metallic, pith-helmet-shaped craft, dome windows, two downward white beams and four extending legs. As his surroundings appeared to darken, he felt dizzy and compelled toward the fence. Two roughly 1.1-metre humanoids allegedly took him aboard despite his refusal. The fuller Brazilian account describes white-silver trousers, belted buttoned tops, gloves, boots and visored helmets with paired, ball-tipped antennae; humanlike facial features were visible through the visors. Inside he recalled soft flooring, diffuse white lighting, uncomfortable air and two slightly taller female-presenting occupants at consoles. A dark-haired occupant invited him to travel; a blond companion eventually ordered his release after he pleaded that his mother was waiting. He next remembered being outside and seeing the craft depart, with his watch showing 12:15 a.m. He felt the sequence had lasted only minutes. His mother reportedly confirmed unusual thirst and agitation afterward. Investigators claimed four small ground holes, but later found the field ploughed before planned photographs. Local residents did not confirm a neighbourhood blackout. The published Brazilian investigation history credits Luiz do Rosário Real and Walter Bühler; INTCAT cites another compilation and investigator. Starting times differ by ten minutes. An attempted regression reportedly yielded no additional recall. Neither hypnosis nor the later disappearance of alleged marks establishes the cause of the experience; those uncertainties remain distinct from Ávila’s account.
