Case description
Around midnight on July 8–9, 1978, a motorist near Lempdes, France, noticed a strong white gleam some three hundred metres ahead. He initially associated it with an emergency vehicle or an accident. As the road curved, he described a rounded mass approximately five metres high, with its base hidden below the roadside and a white light above the dome.
Passing it, he said he could see numerous normal humanlike figures through a transparent wall. They wore helmets and close-fitting outfits resembling astronauts' suits. When he looked again, the mass had disappeared. Accounts also describe his wife and mother seeing orange-red and green lights that moved away rapidly; their observation should not be treated as an identical view of the occupants.
The following day, flattened vegetation and a triangular hollow or support-like mark were reported beneath power lines. The grass was described as neither burned nor broken. GEOVNI investigated, and the source trail includes La Montagne of August 2, 1978. A reported absence of a radar anomaly does not resolve the visual account. The plate places the motorist, translucent dome and indistinct helmeted figures in one reconstructed roadside view.
