Arembepe landing encounter — December 11, 1978

The Arembepe report is dated December 11, 1978, at night, and describes a metallic object resting in a field in Bahia. Its shape was compared with an inverted basin and its diameter estimated at approximately 12 metres. A tall humanlike figure was reportedly seen coming out of it. The surviving account begins with the object already on the ground and does not describe its arrival. Rosales’s version gives the figure light skin, dark hair, a closely fitting silvery outfit and boots. Antonio Faleiro’s brief account, attributed to Alberto Romero, also describes dark hair and a rough beard. These are descriptions of an essentially human-looking individual; enlarged eyes, a hairless head or other familiar alien features are not supplied. Neither version records speech, an approach to the observer, physical contact, taking aboard or the object’s eventual departure. The source trail is unusually thin. Faleiro’s ET in Brazil compilation and the later Rosales catalogue provide no witness name, witness count, observation distance or interview record. Patrick Gross’s comparison notes that the original information supplied through Romero is not securely documented and considers an ordinary aircraft-related misunderstanding possible. That suggestion is an evaluation rather than an identified explanation. The Atlas retains the reported scene while leaving the observer’s identity and the object’s nature unresolved.
