Case description
Two airmen on guard duty at Brindisi's military airfield reported unusual lights on the evening of 13 December 1978. In the Italian catalogue transcription, the guards were approximately one hundred metres apart. They described a multicolored flying object emitting intermittent green and orange light and making abrupt maneuvers or jumps.
The same brief account states that a nearby being, wrapped in a coat, rose from the ground and disappeared. It supplies no usable description of the figure's face, size or anatomy, and no definite shape for the luminous object. Later summaries describe pulsating lights hovering near the soldiers and place the figure's rapid upward movement as the object departed. The association is therefore reported proximity and timing, rather than a witnessed boarding sequence.
The documentary trail points to Corriere del Giorno of 14 December 1978, followed by Italian UFO catalogues. Published versions disagree over exact time, with evening, 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. appearing in different summaries. A separate report by motorway watchers is often prefixed to the story but should remain distinct from the guards' observation. Without the original interviews or a detailed investigation, the record cannot establish what the lights or coat-wrapped figure were.
