Case description
Truck driver Angelo Capuzzello reported a nighttime encounter on December 15, 1978, near Licodia Eubea on state road 514 in Sicily. The imported record calls the locality Ragusa; fuller Italian sources place the stop in the Catania province area near the route toward Ragusa. Published times range from about 11:45–11:50 p.m. to 1 a.m.
After radio interference, he reportedly stopped in an emergency area to investigate. Two very tall figures approached, generally described as about two to 2.15 metres high. Their close-fitting suits were black or blue-black, with helmets, transparent visors and small side projections or wires. Young, clean-shaven humanlike faces were visible in one version. Bright lights from the helmets illuminated the truck cabin, and the figures spoke in sounds he could not understand. Capuzzello tried giving them directions.
The beings then returned toward their object. A dome-shaped craft reportedly rose with a flash and disappeared, after which the radio functioned again; a sulphurous smell was also reported. The TRACAT digest mentions very large footprints, but only as the driver’s claim, without independent confirmation. Richard Hall’s MUFON account and later Italian summaries preserve related versions rather than demonstrating several separate events. The illustration combines the roadside figures, driver and nearby dome, preserving their distinctive helmets and human faces.
