Case description
Maria Artura and her six-year-old grandson Brian reportedly watched a luminous object near their home in Canoga Park on August 4, 1979, around 10:35 p.m. The Chronicle published the story and an illustration on August 16; investigator Walter Greenawald later described it in the MUFON UFO Journal. A subsequent Ann Druffel discussion emphasised how little occupant detail was actually recalled.
The witnesses described a round saucer-like object with a transparent, bubble-shaped dome, approaching from the west and hovering over an apartment building across the street. Two human-shaped forms with unusually large heads were visible inside. The object reportedly tilted, levelled, moved behind a tree, tilted again and eventually departed westwards. The reported movements should not be read as a measured flight-performance record.
The newspaper drawing is an illustration of the account, not a photograph of a craft. No detailed facial anatomy or verified alien species follows from the vague interior forms. The plate includes grandmother and grandson at the window, the luminous domed object and two indistinct large-headed silhouettes. Its viewpoint and likenesses are artistic, while the sparse description of the occupants remains explicit.
