Gateshead disc-shaped object report — September 3, 1979

A woman near Gateshead reportedly experienced a nighttime episode on September 3, 1979, following earlier low-level sightings associated with her family. The short Atlas entry mentions a small metallic disc in her bedroom. Fuller catalogues identify her as Carol X and place her at her mother's home around 4 a.m., with a tingling sensation and difficulty moving. She reportedly saw a gray disc hovering in a corner, with a narrow projection angled upward. About twelve small beings approached the bed. They were described as roughly 75 centimetres tall, wearing white uniforms and cloaks, with large heads and pale eyes. Her spectacles were unavailable during the first episode; INTCAT says the detailed facial description was reconstructed from a further encounter later that month. The different occasions should therefore remain distinguishable. The reporting chain leads to John Watson in Northern UFO News 74, whose original account was not retrieved here. Patrick Gross notes the lack of witness age, reporting circumstances and independent evidence, and proposes a sleep-related hallucination or paralysis explanation. That is an interpretation, not a demonstrated diagnosis. The plate shows a safely clothed representative adult witness, the indoor disc and small cloaked figures before any alleged examination. It avoids invasive procedures and keeps their faces soft rather than presenting later-reconstructed details as a clear initial view.
