Case description
The September 14, 1979, Oakenholt episode belongs to the extended Sunderland family reports investigated by Jenny Randles and Paul Whetnall. Later sources identify the experiencer as Gaynor Sunderland. After midnight she reportedly noticed light through her bedroom window, felt dizzy and experienced rising through a tunnel toward an illuminated field.
There she described meeting the figures known in her account as Arna and Parz. A large hovering object allegedly took her aboard by a beam. She recalled one main room, additional beings, a young woman who appeared almost human and a portrait of an older male figure. A journey described as lasting about thirty minutes led to a place interpreted as a zoo, with unfamiliar animals. The experience ended with her finding herself back in bed.
Thomas Bullard’s catalogue explicitly classifies this episode as an out-of-body experience and journey. Jerome Clark’s later synthesis adds that Gaynor herself sensed the scenes may have been vivid mental images rather than physical travel, while still considering the experience real. Those qualifications are essential and differ from an independently witnessed nighttime removal.
Earlier Sunderland reports, including the 1976 field encounter and later hypnosis, are separate parts of the family history. Their details should not automatically become evidence for this date. No independent observation of physical transport was located here. The plate depicts only a safe, clothed contextual field scene, with indistinct figures and craft, and is labeled as a reported out-of-body experience.
