Case description

The short NICAP entry dates this Botafuegos report February 11, 1980. It describes a man watching a whitish-orange luminous object rise from woods, separate into three luminous parts and reunite. Two very large humanlike silhouettes then appeared near the ground in front of the lights. This does not establish three separate solid craft or give detailed occupant anatomy. A fuller associated account concerns Rafael Tobajas, his wife and three boys near Algeciras, and is usually dated February 12. After watching unusual lights from an apartment terrace, the couple drove toward the old Los Barrios road and took the boys along. Using binoculars, they reportedly observed a dark mass with bright lights and two figures around three metres tall, wearing close-fitting khaki-green outfits. The figures moved slowly near a stream and bushes; the group left by car when frightened. The difference in date and witness count prevents treating every detail as a secure expansion of the abbreviated ledger. Later discussion also records ground impressions that resembled mortar-related marks, without establishing an alien origin. A green-skinned female figure at a separate automobile scrapyard belongs to another witness’s story and is not one of these two silhouettes. The Atlas preserves the Botafuegos sequence and its possible Tobajas association while keeping those separate incidents and source disagreements visible.

The film associates the brief February11 Botafuegos sequence with the fuller Tobajas family/boys report, often dated February12. Witness counts and that association remain uncertain. Three luminous parts do not establish three solid craft, and reported ground marks do not establish alien origin. The later scrapyard figure is a separate report.
