Case description
Ellen Crystall described an encounter near Pine Bush, New York, during 1980. NICAP dates it August 8, citing Silent Invasion, page 41, and UFO Universe, Spring 1989. In an earlier interview printed in Pursuit in 1981, she estimated late August or early September instead. That direct account makes a precise August 8 date uncertain.
She said she had watched an object descend into thickets beyond a field she knew. Unwilling to walk into unfamiliar vegetation alone, she drove slowly along the road with her window open, using a flashlight to look for it. In a clearing she noticed something moving parallel to the car about 30 feet away. It stopped and looked at her. She described a small neck and body and exceptionally large yellow, slit-like eyes; later catalogue wording adds a height around four feet and a close-fitting beige jumpsuit. She accelerated away.
Crystall explicitly told her interviewer that she did not see the craft while observing the figure: she inferred it remained where she had seen it descend. These phases must not be presented as one simultaneous clear view. No conversation or physical contact is described. The plate consequently labels its partly obscured object position as contextual and combines phases openly, while preserving the distinctive yellow eyes rather than substituting standard black-eyed Grey anatomy.
