Case description
José Fermín Albornoz, a cattleman working in the mountains near Manzano Amargo in Neuquén Province, reported an encounter during the night of February 17–18, 1981. At about four in the morning, disturbed sheep, horses and dogs woke him. He saw a bright blue circular object hovering a short distance from the ground, roughly twenty metres away.
He woke one companion, who reacted with fear and hid beneath his blankets. Albornoz described a loud buzzing sound and two short, broad-headed figures suddenly appearing close to him. They wore dark, close-fitting suits and something resembling helmets. They spoke, but he could not understand the words.
Overcome with fear, Albornoz said he briefly lost consciousness. He and his companion then saw the blue object move away to the west. The companion's reported observation concerned the object, not the figures. Later examination of the site was said to reveal no traces. Albornoz described the figures outdoors and a short loss of awareness; he did not describe being inside the object in this account.
