Case description
Jane Murphy, aged 22, described an experience in Birstall during March 1981 that began after she had gone to bed. She remembered suddenly finding herself outside in a cold, wet field, with a very large metallic object overhead. A group numbering as many as ten figures approached. The surviving retellings do not provide a measured location, a precise day or a sufficiently detailed description to establish the craft’s geometry.
Her account continued with a cloth placed over her face, loss of consciousness and a remembered interior encounter involving examination and unwanted sexual contact. She also described a small mark on her arm afterward. A fuller description associated with the case identifies a particularly tall, human-looking figure, approximately seven feet high, with completely black eyes. That appearance should not be converted into the conventional large-headed grey figure often used in unrelated abduction illustrations.
The published source trail runs through Nagaitis and Mantle’s 1994 collection and later summaries, including INTCAT. The transition from sleep to an unfamiliar setting is essential context; the material reviewed does not establish an independently observed removal from her bedroom. Nor does it justify claiming hypnosis as the source of every detail without an explicit record of it. The plate uses a non-invasive exterior scene, with the adult witness fully clothed, and distinguishes illustrative interpretation from corroborated physical evidence.
