Mount Vernon unidentified light report — April 1, 1981

The Mount Vernon account begins with two men driving home in Oregon around 7:30 p.m. on April 1, 1981. They reportedly noticed three bright lights above the highway and a larger light as they reached a hilltop. After pulling aside, they described a huge illuminated object resembling a bowl. They said they tried to leave but experienced an apparent break in consciousness. Their next remembered moment was inside the vehicle, with something moving away outside, followed by a light shooting upward. The detailed occupants and boarding episode belong to later hypnotic regression. In that material, the principal witness described white light around the car, several frail beings about five feet two inches tall, large hairless heads, gray-white skin, dark almond-shaped eyes and long thin arms. He recalled entering through a triangular doorway and being separated from his companion. These claims are not equivalent to an independently observed sequence recovered from contemporaneous notes. The retelling also includes a supposed view of space shuttle Columbia on a screen and a suggestion of time travel. Its assertion that Columbia launched on April 2 is incorrect: NASA dates the first flight to April 12, 1981. Another compilation even substitutes Challenger. Those errors undermine using the shuttle detail as corroboration. The plate is explicitly labeled as a hypnosis-based composite, showing the car, witnesses, described beings and bowl-shaped craft without depicting the claimed examination.
