Case description
The Alpine-area report concerns a former reserve police officer identified in a later newspaper interview only as David. NICAP dates the experience to 30 August 1981 at about 22:30. Returning home past the Singing Hills Country Club, he reportedly saw a dark disc, approximately the size of a railway boxcar, hovering about fifteen feet above the road. His car stopped abruptly and a bright light flashed toward him.
The next remembered scene placed him in his moving car as the object climbed away. He fired several shots and drove home frightened. His wife subsequently took away his revolver and called neighbours. The following morning he reportedly could not remember the incident. In the days afterward he described headaches and soreness or marks on his neck, wrists and ankles. He also reported altered cassette recordings, a watch display change and car electrical trouble; the available accounts do not provide independent technical tests establishing their cause.
Investigator Robert Herr told the San Diego Reader in 1990 that hypnosis later produced David’s recollection of two small creatures removing and returning him to the car. Those beings were not part of the initial consciously remembered road scene. The recovered account remains dependent on that method and does not establish an abduction as fact. The plate combines the reported road obstruction with indistinct figures from the later recollection and explicitly labels this phase composite; it depicts no shooting, injury or procedure.
