Hellifield unidentified light report — March 4, 1982

At about 10:30 p.m. on 4 March 1982, a businesswoman from Skipton reportedly encountered unusual lights while driving home on the A65 between Hellifield and Coniston Cold. The fuller catalogue account says a blue light illuminated her car. In her mirror she saw a red and a blue light close together, which appeared to follow for roughly eight hundred metres. A beam then appeared beside the nearside of the car, widening toward the ground into a cone approximately five metres across. She felt unusually cold and the engine began to rev. The lights reportedly disappeared as a lorry approached. When she arrived home she found an unexplained difference of approximately thirty minutes between the expected and actual time. NICAP's shorter entry says the car was surrounded by blue lights and lifted into the air. The fuller INTCAT account, citing Paul Devereux and Nagaitis and Mantle, preserves a more specific light-and-engine sequence without that explicit levitation. The versions are therefore distinguished rather than treating every detail as independently confirmed. No occupants, clearly outlined craft or remembered boarding are described. An unexplained time discrepancy alone does not establish an abduction or what happened during the interval. The reconstruction follows the fuller roadside sequence, with the car still on the road and an explicit note that the levitation claim varies between sources.
