Case description
Shortly after 4:30 p.m. on 12 January 1983, a father and his two sons, aged fifteen and ten, reportedly saw a glowing inverted-L shape beyond their rural Pine Township home. R. A. Busse investigated for CUFOS and published their account under pseudonyms. Heavy cloud made the afternoon dusky, although the ground was dry and snow-free. Dogs became agitated, while normally noisy geese remained quiet.
The father and younger boy described a three-foot being apparently holding or guiding the glow, floating two or three feet above the ground. A second being appeared near a fence, where the father approached within about twelve feet. He described an oversized smooth ivory head, large fish-like eyes with lashes, no ears, small nasal indentations and a close-fitting light-grey suit. Its dark belt carried touching circular marks. The older son chiefly described the light, calling it T-shaped, and retreated indoors.
A third similar figure appeared near discarded material in the yard. The father and younger boy said the three converged beyond the road, became confused in a blaze of light and shot upward into the clouds. The father thought the bent luminous staff straightened during departure. No conventional craft was seen and no sound came from the figures or glow.
A search found no physical evidence. Busse explicitly rejected a mind-control interpretation of the boy's curiosity. NICAP labels the locality Tippecanoe County, while a later CUFOS chronology says Porter County; the original article gives only Pine Township. That geographic disagreement remains unresolved.
