Case description
This entry is a modern UFO-catalogue interpretation of Ezekiel’s inaugural vision, rather than an ancient investigation of an unidentified machine. Ezekiel 1 places the prophet among Babylonian exiles beside the Chebar waterway in the fifth year of Jehoiachin’s exile, conventionally dated around 593/592 BCE. The text explicitly presents visions of divine glory.
A storm cloud approaches with fire and amberlike radiance. Within it appear four living creatures, each humanlike in form but bearing four faces and four wings. Their faces combine human, lion, ox and eagle aspects; their straight legs end in calf-like feet shining like bronze. Beside them are wheel-within-wheel forms with eye-covered rims, moving in concert with the creatures. Above a crystalline expanse stands a sapphirelike throne bearing a radiant humanlike likeness, surrounded by rainbow brightness.
The catalogue’s four supports simplify the living creatures, while its statement that Ezekiel was taken for a ride combines this vision with transport language in chapter 3. There the spirit lifts him and brings him to the exiles at Tel Abib; no boarding of a metal aircraft is described. The historical illustration therefore interprets the biblical imagery on its own terms, without treating a modern spacecraft reconstruction as the primary text.
