Case description
A man identified only as Frank recalled a childhood encounter at Bournbrook, near Birmingham, when interviewed after a newspaper UFO series in 1978. He said that, aged ten in the summer of 1901, he returned along a path behind his family’s garden and found a small boxlike structure standing on the grass.
In the Flying Saucer Review investigation, the object was greenish-blue with a metallic sheen, a small central turret and a doorway but no windows. Two men less than four feet tall emerged. They looked human and wore military-style uniforms without insignia, with unusual caps bearing wirelike projections. One stayed by the doorway while the other approached and waved Frank away. Both returned inside; a flash surrounded the structure and it reportedly rose rapidly with a rushing sound.
The story was collected more than seventy years after its claimed date. The investigators explicitly acknowledged that this interval made precise details uncertain. Hatch’s afternoon timing differs from the summer-evening description, so the plate uses daylight without asserting an exact hour. This is a retrospective childhood account, without contemporary corroboration, and its small men should not be replaced by an unsupported modern Grey appearance.
