Case description
The Gobilli River story is attributed to Russian explorer V. K. Arsenyev and dated 11 July 1908 in later literature. The recoverable passage appears in John Keel's The Mothman Prophecies, quoting E. Petrenko's 1973 Flying Saucer Review article. It describes a forest journey, a humanlike footprint beside the route, and the explorer's dog Alpha becoming agitated at something concealed in the bushes.
After waiting, Arsenyev reportedly threw a stone toward the disturbance. He heard beating wings, then saw a large dark shape emerge from fog, fly across the river and disappear into mist. The dog crouched close to his feet. The account does not resolve the shape's face, skin, eyes or body plan. In particular, the imported small-Grey classification is unsupported by the recovered narrative: the reported phenomenon was a poorly resolved flying form, accompanied by wing sounds, rather than a clearly examined little humanoid.
The retelling adds that local Udehe people later discussed a flying-man tradition and tracks that abruptly ended. That folklore is contextual commentary, not another observation of this event. The original diary passage has not been independently recovered for this record, and the accessible publication chain is many decades later. No craft was reported. The plate therefore keeps the winged shape obscured in mist and labels its status as a later retelling.
