Case description
The Florence entry is dated 24 April 1909 and describes a white, balloon-like object passing high over the city with two people dressed in white aboard. The Atlas ledger supplies 09:20 and calls the object an ovoid. The recoverable reporting chain is much later: Paolo Fiorino discussed an old airship clipping in a 1991 ufology article, and later catalogues repeated his short synopsis. The exact La Nazione clipping identified in the ledger was not recovered here.
No landing, conversation or close approach is described. The witnesses' names, exact number, viewing positions, estimated height and distance remain unavailable in that synopsis. Its occupants are described simply as people, without unusual heads, faces, movement or physiology. White clothing and an unexplained object do not alone establish an extraterrestrial encounter. A conventional balloon or early airship is an obvious possibility, although no particular flight has been matched to this report.
Patrick Gross's source assessment suggests an airship while acknowledging that he could not document a corresponding flight over Florence that day. That remains a proposed identification, rather than a demonstrated solution. The illustration therefore uses a contextual balloon-like envelope and representative period observers, labels the limited historical report, and leaves the two people indistinct. Its gondola, city viewpoint and structure are artistic choices, not newly recovered details of the 1909 sighting.
