Case description

A later account places an unusual landing near Chatham, Virginia, in 1930. A couple identified as Mr. and Mrs. Collins reportedly heard a humming sound while travelling on a rural road, about six miles north of town. They looked beyond a low rise and saw a metallic, domed object on the ground. In the fuller retelling, small figures in green clothing and helmets were bending or working near the soil beside the object. After a short observation, the figures returned to it. The object then rose and departed, accompanied by a humming sound. The story describes observation from outside the landing area, with no reported conversation or taking of the witnesses. The source history is less precise than the catalogue’s compact entry suggests. Versions differ over the number of figures—two in one account, four in the imported record—and over whether the observation occurred around 2 or 3 p.m. The exact day is unknown. The Atlas presents the event as a retrospectively reported 1930 episode and avoids assigning an exact occupant count or calendar date.
