Case description
The Joliette story is attributed to five young people travelling by car to visit relatives in October 1932. Later sources disagree about the time, giving either 18:00 or approximately 19:00, and estimate the figure from eight feet to nearly three metres tall. The most developed version places it crossing a cemetery near the town entrance as the car approached. No contemporary 1932 report or named witness statement was recovered.
The figure reportedly wore white overalls and matching gloves. It walked upright with long strides, stepped over an enclosure approximately a metre high and reached the road at nearly the same time as the vehicle. The frightened driver accelerated away when it came within about two metres. Its face remained unseen. Some descriptions compare the gait with a later astronaut's slow movement, while others call it brisk and regular; that modern comparison should not be turned into documented 1932 space equipment.
Patrick Gross's source comparison traces the accessible story to books and catalogues published decades afterward, including Michel Bougard and John Brent Musgrave. The witnesses' reported belief that its proportions ruled out stilts was an impression, not a test of a hoax hypothesis. Conversely, the imported hoax flag is not a recovered confession or established finding. No UFO appears in the account. The plate uses an indistinct tall white-clothed form by a cemetery and a period car, with no added helmet, spacecraft or invented facial anatomy.
