Case description
Erland Thorander described a childhood experience at Vallsta in Mellanström, Arjeplog parish, in an account published by Stig Aggestad in UFO Information in 1981. The original Swedish text places it on a cold afternoon between Christmas and Epiphany in 1942, conflicting with the ledger's April 1942 date. Waiting for his father, the boy was tending the kitchen stove and watching the marsh from a window.
A smooth-edged cloud with a faint pink glow reportedly descended and hovered about four metres above the ground, appearing steamy and sheet-metal-like. The hardboard kitchen door began crackling; its nail heads seemed to glow or spark. A frightened cat crept along the skirting board. Thorander then saw an image take shape on the closed door: an adult-height figure with a large flat face, almond-shaped eyes, long coarse centrally parted hair, sloping shoulders and an ankle-length robe, standing on a mushroom-like base.
Only the eyes appeared to move. The image faded in a swirling motion and the cloud rose vertically. His father returned later, reportedly noticed an odd smell over the marsh and the disturbed cat, and interpreted the episode through local omen folklore. He did not independently witness the apparition. This remains a recollection published decades later, and the plate depicts a door image rather than a physical being disembarking from a saucer.
