Case description
Madeleine Arnoux recalled that, aged thirteen during the summer of 1944, she cycled toward the Le Verger farm west of Toulon-sur-Arroux to collect food. She stopped beside the road to pick berries. The account was submitted much later in a letter published by Lumières Dans la Nuit in June 1972.
Looking along a dirt track, she said she noticed a rounded, dull-grey object several hundred metres away. It seemed approximately the size of a car and had a dome-like upper portion. Short figures in brown, overall-like clothing were outside. Their faces were not resolved at that distance. The catalogue specifies three figures, while the reproduced first-person account is less precise about the number.
She remembered remaining motionless, then reaching for her bicycle. By then the object had disappeared, accompanied by a disturbance of wind and trees. She did not describe seeing its actual arrival or departure. The simpler catalogue wording therefore should not imply an observed landing.
The long reporting delay limits precision. Arnoux subsequently clarified the authorship of associated sketches. Her original account does not establish an abduction, an onboard episode, or recovered memories; those themes should not be supplied from later comparisons with other encounters.
