Case description
Ilona Johansson-Paasonen's account places her at a lakeside sauna during a holiday in late August 1945, before 5 a.m., on Längelmävesi in Finland. She reportedly saw an intensely bright ball, estimated at ten metres across, approaching over the lake from several hundred yards away. After looking again a few minutes later, she saw something dark and elongated moving slowly toward the shore instead.
As it came closer, the dark shape appeared to be a canoe-like boat. A slender man in greenish coveralls stood at the bow; another man at the rear seemed to steer an engine enclosed within a large glass bulb. She heard no motor noise. A large Lapp dog beneath her window reportedly had its fur standing up and then ran away. Feeling weak, she returned to bed.
The recovered HUMCAT synopsis traces the story to FSR Case Histories 13, which cited Vimana 3–4 of 1970, about twenty-five years after the supposed event. It does not describe a continuously observed transformation of fireball into boat, nor does it identify the men as nonhuman. The illustration therefore shows the later boat phase with the witness and dog; it leaves out the earlier fireball and preserves the unusual glass-enclosed engine without substituting a conventional flying saucer.
