Case description
An unidentified young man reportedly encountered an unusual object near Sint-Niklaas, Belgium, one evening in August 1946, at approximately 8:30 p.m. The surviving HUMCAT entry describes a pan-shaped object beside a road and a small being nearby holding an acacia branch. The figure then entered through an opening in the underside, leaving the witness frightened.
Later catalogue versions add that the man was cycling home, sometimes increase the number of figures to two, and describe a branch being broken from a tree. Burned ground was reportedly noticed afterward. Those additions should be distinguished from the shorter HUMCAT wording. No precise day, named witness, dimensions of the object, detailed face, conversation or reliably documented departure sequence is supplied in the material examined.
The publication trail is retrospective: HUMCAT cites a 1975 UFO Register listing of early Belgian reports, with H. Hus named uncertainly as investigator. Other compilations cite Belgian researcher Hugo Hus and note that some investigators suspected a hoax. The suspicion is not a demonstrated confession or identified fabrication in the sources reviewed. The case therefore remains a disputed early encounter report with limited provenance. The plate includes the cyclist, branch-holding figure and pan-shaped object, while treating clothing, likeness and setting as contextual rather than recovered facts.
