North / Pendleton, OR being encounter — June 24, 1947

Bill Schuening’s Pendleton-area story changed substantially between contemporary and retrospective reporting. June 1947 newspaper accounts described the ranch foreman seeing high, fast objects whose shape he could not determine. In a 1987 East Oregonian interview, he instead described a nearby hovering craft and two small figures. The imported entry largely follows this later version. Schuening recalled driving north of Pendleton, hearing a hum and seeing a silver, round or spherical object hovering a few feet above farmland. Two waist-high figures in green suits and white helmets reportedly stood beneath it. He said they suddenly vanished from view before the object departed toward the river and mountains; he did not describe a visible doorway or know how they entered. The forty-year gap and mismatch with the 1947 press account are central limitations, not details to omit. The sighting is usually dated June 24 by comparison with Kenneth Arnold’s report, although the contemporary newspaper’s chronology also creates ambiguity. The plate is labelled a retrospective version and includes a representative younger Schuening, pickup, silver form and two covered figures. It does not transfer Arnold’s shapes or imply that occupants were documented in 1947.
