Case description
A woman identified as Mrs S. said that she encountered an unusual object while cycling beside the Seine between Rouen and Amfreville-la-Mi-Voie in the first half of July 1947. At about 3 p.m. on a sunny afternoon, she noticed it already resting on the road. She approached to approximately one hundred metres before stopping.
She described a dull grey oval, roughly three metres long and one to two metres high, without visible wheels or supporting legs. Two beings no taller than about one metre, dressed in grey with matching brimless head coverings, were occupied beside it. Their facial features were not resolved. When she rang her bicycle bell, they turned toward her and hurried through a small circular opening. The object reportedly rose vertically, paused while oscillating, and departed silently toward Sotteville-lès-Rouen.
B. Delabroye interviewed the witness for OURANOS on May 30, 1972, following a television programme: the surviving investigation was therefore recorded about twenty-five years after the claimed event. Its publication in Phénomènes Inconnus supplies the source behind later books. Neither a precise July day nor an independently corroborating witness is established. Hatch’s more specific date should not erase the original first-half-of-July dating.
