Bauru, Brz being encounter — July 23, 1947

Surveyor José C. Higgins reportedly encountered a large, gray-white, lens-shaped object on July 23, 1947. CUFOS's HUMCAT places the episode northeast of Pitanga, Paraná. He described a surrounding flange, surface tubing and metal landing supports. After figures watched through a window, three tall, nearly bald occupants emerged with unusually large round eyes, long legs, inflated outer suits and boxes on their backs. According to the published account, the figures communicated in an unfamiliar language and encouraged Higgins toward the entrance. One drew a central mark and seven surrounding rings in the soil, using words transcribed as Alamo and Orque. The later interpretation that these represented the Sun and Uranus was an inference, not a verified translation or astronomical message. Higgins reportedly showed a family photograph and indicated that he wished to leave. He said he withdrew into nearby vegetation and watched the figures for about half an hour. Their movements were described as playful, including jumping and throwing stones, before they reentered the object and departed. The narrative subsequently circulated through Brazilian journalism and the APRO and Flying Saucer Review literature. The imported entry labels the site Bauru, São Paulo, whereas the fuller account places it in Paraná. Bauru also appears as a newspaper publication location in the case's bibliography; those places should not be silently treated as one landing site. Archive research has traced the story's publication history but has not supplied independent confirmation of the encounter. An inherited hoax flag alone does not establish a documented confession.
