Case description
This retrospective story places bus driver Giuseppe Langiano and stationmaster Bavota near Fara di Cigno, San Martino in Pensilis, on 3 April 1948. HUMCAT gives about 6:35 a.m. They reportedly saw an orange luminous object hovering roughly ten metres above the ground. It resembled an inverted bowl, ten to fifteen metres across, topped by a transparent cup-like structure, and emitted a brilliant white beam.
A figure approximately 1.5 metres tall allegedly floated down from the object. It was compared with a large puppet, wearing a rigid metallic-looking one-piece garment and heavy metallic gloves. Two round openings occupied the eye positions. When the men ran toward it, the figure rose back to the object, which departed. Expanded retrospective accounts place the sighting much farther away than the imported 12-metre separation, adding another uncertainty to the scene’s geometry.
The 1948 date belongs to the claim, not a located contemporary publication. Later source criticism traces the story to 1972 reporting connected with the witness’s young ufologist son, Mario, and cites Maurizio Verga’s suspicion of invention. That assessment is significant but does not amount to a documented confession. The reconstruction labels the account as retrospective, compresses distance, and follows the metallic puppet description rather than converting the figure into a conventional Grey.
